What does a certification mean?
This week's Biz Buzz answers that question in relation to publishing. Each of us highlight one benefit an author receives when working with a certified publishing professional.
Colleen talks about the ethics and standards a certification provides. Peter shares how they provide social proof and a stamp of dedication to their craft. CaZ talks about the knowledge of process that comes from the certification courses. And we share one bonus benefit which marries all three benefits into one, the benefit of having a group of other like-minded individuals to provide guidance, support, and comradery.
In our second segment, Peter talks with Kathryn Adams, author of The Pianist's Only Daughter, a memoir about her and her parents. Kathryn shares a wonderful story about her and her aging parents in her memoir and she speaks wonderfully about her book and her experience writing and publishing. We also take a quick look at the importance of book awards and why indie authors should think about applying for book awards.

Ep. 038 - Book Blurbs and How To Inspire Your Muse
Tuesday Jul 16, 2024
Tuesday Jul 16, 2024
On this week's show we dive into a topic which has been a topic of conversation on Threads recently and is a general question many authors have: Book Blurbs! What are they? Why are authors afraid to write them? Peter, CaZ, and Colleen settle into a definition of book blurbs, what they are and what they are not, and how you can make the most of your book blurb.
In segment two, Peter talks with guest, Amanda Gavigan who hosts the Inspire Your Muse Writers Retreat coming up in August. We talk with her about the retreat, why authors would want to join the retreat, a little about what speakers there will be (you should recognize one of them!), and more about writing and publishing. If you stick around to the end of the show, Amanda does share a special code you can use to receive 10% off your registration fee.

Ep. 037 - How Much Do You Value Your Time?
Tuesday Jul 09, 2024
Tuesday Jul 09, 2024
One of the biggest questions an author needs to ask themselves, is how much they value their time. Writing and publishing cover many different areas of expertise. As an author you must make the decision on what your time costs. Authors can make the decision to do everything themselves or work with professionals to make sure their book is properly published.
Your time is valuable and in order to reach your goal, it may require you to work with others in the industry who can make your book the best it can be to free up your own time and energy to focus on the parts of writing that best serves you.
In our second segment, Peter reviews Glennon Doyle's book, Untamed. A book on his to-read list for quite some time, he reviews how even though he is not the ideal audience for the book, he stills learned about himself.
