This week we delve into all the research, keywords, and design that goes into making your book a bestseller. One area of publishing many authors do not know about is the research and behind-the-scenes work needed to publish.
For example, what do you know about the similar books and authors in your genre?
Does your cover fit into genre expectations?
Do you know how to write the best blurb?
What is the appropriate category for your book?
We talk about all this and more in this week's episode. Down below we have a couple of links to previous episode where we talk about some topics in more depth.
Don't forget to subscribe to the show wherever you listen to podcasts and be sure to leave us a review!

In our final August episode, we're peeling back the curtain on three terms used to describe publishing. This week's Biz Buzz defines traditional publishing, self-publishing, and indie publishing. While these terms are all related to each other, it's important we don't confuse these terms while talking with each other.
What ways are you published? Do you want to be self-published? Are you looking at indie publishing? Have you sent query letters out to traditional publishers?

What are Beta readers? What about ARC readers? Or a street team? These are all different variations on a theme: how writers can leverage their fans to help their book succeed. But these terms are often misused and have some blurred lines as to their actual usage. So we clarify each of these terms in this week's episode and discuss how these groups interact with and often time lead into each other.

What goes into creating a back cover? Once a reader has decided to pick up a book, one of the first places they look is the back cover. When it comes down to it, the back cover is one of the best marketing tools you have.
This week's Biz Buzz dives into all you need to know about your back cover. Peter moderates this week's segment with Colleen sharing the non-fiction back cover necessities and CaZ speaking on the behalf of fiction books. What's similar and what's different? The answers may surprise you!
In the second segment, CaZ is back with her monthly Tales and Threads segment. Characters, plot, conflict, and more... there are many storytelling elements authors will need to utilize when writing their story. CaZ speaks about each of them and provides examples of a few as well.

What does a certification mean?
This week's Biz Buzz answers that question in relation to publishing. Each of us highlight one benefit an author receives when working with a certified publishing professional.
Colleen talks about the ethics and standards a certification provides. Peter shares how they provide social proof and a stamp of dedication to their craft. CaZ talks about the knowledge of process that comes from the certification courses. And we share one bonus benefit which marries all three benefits into one, the benefit of having a group of other like-minded individuals to provide guidance, support, and comradery.
In our second segment, Peter talks with Kathryn Adams, author of The Pianist's Only Daughter, a memoir about her and her parents. Kathryn shares a wonderful story about her and her aging parents in her memoir and she speaks wonderfully about her book and her experience writing and publishing. We also take a quick look at the importance of book awards and why indie authors should think about applying for book awards.
